Meettap — Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Meettap handles information. The app shares the minimum needed to meet up, only with the person you are meeting, and only while you are meeting.

1. Information we collect

The app does not collect or store personally identifying information. There is no account to create, and we never register or collect your name, email address, phone number, or social accounts. No third-party analytics or advertising SDKs are included. We do record anonymous counts of actions to improve the app, but they contain nothing that identifies you (see section 6).

2. Information shared during a meet-up

While a meet-up session is active, the following is shared only with the person you are meeting.

Approximate location: not your exact coordinates, but a position rounded to a roughly 100-meter grid, used only for direction and rough distance
Device heading: so the arrow points the right way
A single-use ranging token: an identifier that lets the two devices measure distance directly. It is created fresh for each session and cannot be used for anything else

Sharing is always mutual. There is no state in which only one side can see the other. Sharing happens only while the app is open, and there is no background location access or tracking.

3. Processed on device only

Precise close-range distance and direction are computed directly between the two devices and never sent to a server. The camera is used solely to improve directional accuracy, and no video is stored or transmitted. Bluetooth is used only to sense proximity. Barometric pressure readings are exchanged, encrypted, only with the person you are meeting to detect a floor difference, and are never stored on a server.

4. Handling on our server

The information in section 2 passes through our server (meettap.appline.app, on Cloudflare) to make the meet-up work.

Only the rounded position, heading, single-use token, and session state are stored — nothing that identifies a person
It is deleted immediately when you meet, or when either side ends the session
If neither happens, it disappears automatically three hours after the link was created
We do not record access logs or IP addresses
To prevent misuse and runaway costs, we cap how many links can be created. For that count we derive a one-way, non-reversible value (a salted hash) from the connecting IP address and use it only as a key for counting. The IP address itself is never stored, and the count is deleted automatically after a set period. While a cap is reached you cannot create a new link, but meet-ups already in progress are unaffected

No meet-up history is kept on our server. For what may be kept on your device, see section 6.

5. Device permissions

Location (while in use): to show distance and direction to the other person
Nearby device interaction: to measure precise distance and direction
Bluetooth: to sense proximity
Motion (barometer): to detect a floor difference
Camera: to improve directional accuracy (no video is stored or sent)

All are used only while the meet-up screen is open.

6. Anonymous usage statistics

To improve the app we record counts of actions only. Each record contains three things: the app name, the name of the action, and the app version.

We count how many times "the app was opened", "a link was created", "the other person opened the link", "precise ranging started", "two people met" and "a session ended without meeting" happened in total
No identifier for you or your device is ever attached - no account id, device id, advertising id, or identifier of our own. With no key to join records on, who, when and where simply do not exist in the data. Building a per-person history or profile is structurally impossible
No location, no free-form text, and nothing from your saved meet-ups is sent
Data goes only to our own Cloudflare server (collect.appline.app). It is never passed to a third-party analytics service or an advertising company
The server accepts only a fixed list of action names that we decided in advance; anything else is discarded without being recorded
We do not record, store or use IP addresses

7. Saved meet-ups (optional, on this device only)

When you find each other, you can keep that one meet-up. Nothing is saved by default. There is no global on/off setting either — a record is written only on the occasions you tap "Save this meet-up" on the meet-up screen.

A record holds the date and time, the farthest distance seen while tracking, the distance when you met, and how long it took
The app has no way of knowing who the other person is. Any name is one you type yourself; nothing about the other person is obtained
Records are stored on this device only. They are never sent to our server or to iCloud, and they are excluded from device backups
You can delete records individually or all at once from the list at any time
This feature is not offered in the App Clip (when you open a link without installing)

8. Apple Watch

On Apple Watch, the app simply mirrors the distance and direction the iPhone is already showing. The Watch does no location gathering or networking of its own, and what the iPhone sends to the Watch is only the distance, the arrow's direction and the current stage — never the location itself.

9. Children's privacy

The app is not designed for children and does not knowingly collect information from them.

If this policy changes, the updated date at the top of this page will be revised.
